Change Team:
Thanks for a Fun Season!

Hi JayHawks families,

Happy Friday! Last evening, the Lake Zurich Blizzard defeated the Palatine Sun Devils 15-4, clinching the wild card spot in the semi-finals. Tomorrow, the Blizzard will play the Palatine Yellow Jackets and the Razorbacks will host the Tigers. The winners of those two games meet in Sunday's championship game.

Our season has ended, but what a game yesterday! First, thank you to the parents who worked to help us find 6th-grade subs. That was challenge No. 1 so we could play the game. Thanks to all the coaches who helped the girls play while I scratched and scribbled on all the lineup changes.

Where to start...after coming to near defeat by mercy rule, the ladies had a furious rally to not only get back in the game but take the lead. A grand slam, a lot of hits, hard running around the bases in hot weather. Defensively, we had good fly ball catches, a successful play at homeplate to save a run, strong pitching from three of our players, at times a lone outfielder covering the entire outfield, and clutch defensive work as a team to hold the Sun Devils in the top of the seventh to secure the win without even needing our last at bat. The Sun Devils played well, making amazing catches on a couple of line shots out into the outfield and having hits of their own. It was a great game; I'm sure the energy the Sun Devils put into our game made it that much more difficult for them to face the Blizzard later that same night. Unfortunately we had some injuries. One six grader ended up in emergency care to check on a hit finger, my daughter had to leave the game not feeling well (she is doing much better today), and there were scrapes and cuts from slides on that gravel field. It was an exciting finish to the season.

I want to thank each of you for sharing your daughters with the team this season. Starting with our April practices, we had a major challenge to have enough players to make a go of it. At this age the ladies get very busy with numerous activities and commitments. Illness struck several of us. It's also challenging for the parents; I missed games and other coaches had to step up. Thanks to the players who played on even if we only had two or even 1 outfielder. It has been great getting to know each of the players and many of you, and seeing the girls come together as a team. That's always, of course, the best part of sports. Have a great, healthy summer!

Playoff Game 3 Location
by posted 06/23/2022

Hi JayHawks,

Palatine has been confirmed as the location for our game tonight. The location is Community Field 2 on Wood Street in Palatine. That's the park we played our other Palatine games this year.

Game start is 5:30 pm. I'll get there around 4:45 for warmups for those who can make it early.

We have 6-7 confirmed players for the game so far. If you haven't let me know, please do. I can put out the call for subs, if we want to try that route. (Subs must be 6th graders for playoff games.)
