The intent of the baseball program is to provide for all participants
a positive experience while learning the fundamentals of baseball.
We try to make it as equal a program as possible, giving equal
attention to all participants. In all our leagues, we use a
continuous batting order so everyone gets their turn at bat.
Our programs start with First Graders and go all the way
through Seniors in High School. Practices start in April for
most leagues, May for others. Games start in May, and the
regular season ends at the end of June (except for the High
School League, which ends late July). All but the Pee Wee
League have a single elimination playoff at the conclusion
of the regular season. All teams, no matter their record,
participate in the playoffs.
With each league, we have special rules of the game designed
to allow that age group to experience the game and have success.
As the players move up in age groups, the rules change to
get them closer and closer to traditional baseball. Such changes
as the distance of the bases, distance of the pitcher’s
mounds, the number of innings played, restrictions on pitching
and on bat sizes, all are designated to accommodate specific
age groups while being as safe as possible for the players.
We are also interested in helping the social development
that being part of a team can give to your child. As they
first start out in the Pee Wee program, we honor all the requests
we can to place friends and class mates together on the same
team. Since we do not keep score or standings in this developmental
league, we are not so concerned with balance of talent. As
the child moves up in age, we get more concerned with balance
of talent. The area that you live will determine the division
you child will be in. The request to be on same teams is very
limited, as we start to keep score, standings, and have playoffs,
as they get older. Teams are formed by a draft that follows
rules to best insure balance of talent. It has been our experience
that the team environment is a great way to make new friends
that will last beyond the season for the kids as well as the
parents.
As an all-volunteer organization, we are only as strong as
the hundreds of volunteers it takes to run an organization
that is as large as this one. Each year, we get hundreds of
volunteer coaches and assistant coaches that dedicate their
time and knowledge to teach all the players the fundamentals
while having fun. If you have done this in the past, I thank
you and encourage you to continue to do so. If you are new
to the program, I would ask that you to consider to step up
and help out a team. Over the last twelve years, I have found
it to be a very rewarding experience, especially when you
see the kids years later and they not only remember you, but
also tell you how much fun they had being on your team and
how they would like to do so again. If coaching is not for
you, then please consider any number of league or divisional
reps that help coordinate the setting up of the leagues each
year and are our first contact with the coaches during the
season.
For more detailed information on each league, please go to
the League tab and find the correct one for your child’s
age group. If you ever have any questions, ideas, or suggestions,
please feel free to contact me. Let’s PLAY BALL!
